The neighborhood transformer blew and my computer died, the television became a hunk of purposeless plastic, darkness flooded the room, and I found myself having to think of what people are to do without electricity as I stared into the light-less abyss that my ceiling had become.
A pen, bottle of ink, paper, and candles— things of value seem to shine when all else fails.
First time to the circus as an adult, and I believe I was even more awestruck than I was as a child. Several photos captured my experience quite well, but none like this image. Most likely because of the subtlety that I appreciate in it. This is not one of the many majestic moments, but the surreal lighting combined with the way the audience is actively a part of the space, makes this one, mine.
